The science
What is TMS, exactly?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment for depression. Rather than working through the bloodstream like a medication, TMS uses focused magnetic pulses — similar in strength to an MRI — to gently stimulate the specific area of the brain associated with mood regulation.
No systemic side effects
Because TMS is localized to the brain, it avoids the fatigue, weight change, and other whole-body side effects that can come with antidepressant medication.
No anesthesia, no downtime
Sessions are outpatient and fully awake. You can drive yourself to and from your appointment and return to work or school the same day.
Targeted, not systemic
Magnetic pulses stimulate the underactive region of the prefrontal cortex linked to depression — addressing a likely root cause, not just symptoms.
Backed by evidence
NeuroStar is one of the most studied TMS systems available, with a strong record of clinical outcomes for treatment-resistant depression.
Is TMS right for you?
You may be a candidate for TMS if…
- You’ve tried one or more antidepressant medications without adequate relief
- You’ve been diagnosed with major depressive disorder
- Medication side effects have made it difficult to continue treatment
- You’re looking for a non-drug approach to managing depression
- You want a treatment that fits around work, school, or family life
Candidacy is always confirmed during a personal consultation with our clinical team — this list is a starting point, not a diagnosis.
